Hello Again

Updated: Sep 15, 2021

Covid made filming the Thoroughbred Network hard. We couldn't get close to our guests or create our usual quality of content, so we opted to take a break.

This gave us the opportunity to knuckle down on what we wanted to achieve this year. So, I'm delighted to say we are back for another season and can't wait to introduce you to our guests.

But first, let's recap on who we are.

I'm Hayley, the host of the podcast and this is our model and podcast cover King River, affectionately known as Murray.

I rode ponies from a young age and knew that I always wanted to work with horses. At the age of sixteen, I enrolled at the British Racing School in Newmarket and embarked on a career in racing. Upon graduating I worked for National Hunt trainer Noel Chance and then flat trainer Clive Cox where I was fortunate enough to look after his very first Group 1 winner Gilt Edge Girl.

Traveling with Gilt Edge Girl gave me my first taste of traveling abroad. In 2011 my now husband (David) and I decided to make the move to Sydney to continue our careers in racing. Since arriving in Australia I've worked as stud hand for Godolphin in the Hunter Valley, foreman for Graham Begg at Randwick, and for the past six years as racing manager to Joseph Pride at Warwick Farm.

In January 2018 David launched our media company Rorison Management. We covered yearling sales as well as assisting trainers and syndications with communications and selling. In March 2020 I launched the Thoroughbred Network Podcast.

My main aim for the Thoroughbred Network was to discover like-minded people who love the Thoroughbred as much as I do. I wanted to discuss them as a breed as well showcase our industry. Racing has given me a career where I could travel the world while doing my dream job of working with horses. I've been lucky enough to sit on some fast horses as well as ride around some magnificent racecourses.

In 2018 I took my first off the track thoroughbred home. Elsa (race name Warrawillah). She's pretty but she's quirky. I've enjoyed every moment of learning the eventing ropes with her. She accumulated a grand total of $2,000 of prize money on the track.

In 2019 Murray (race name King River) retired from racing to live at home with me. He was a handy sprinter and accumulated a grand total of $210,150 of prize money on the track.

In 2021 Harry (race name Invictus Prince) became my third off the track horse to join the pack. His claim to fame was running second behind Winx in a Group 1 and earned a grand total of $226,723 in prize money.

Welfare is one of my biggest passions. Our racehorses give us so much on the track and there is nothing I love more than seeing them retire into a new lease of life. I love my sport; I love my industry and the Thoroughbred Network allowed me to explore the people and the horses that make it so great. I wanted to delve into everything that surrounded the thoroughbred. From careers in racing to retraining success stories and even those thoroughbred stars that made it to the Olympics.

This year I'm hoping we can provide a bit more for our community. We will be catching up with guests who come from all different walks of life as well as rolling out some new extras where our community can come together to meet like-minded people to learn their stories.

At the end of 2020, I left my position at Pride Racing to join our media company full time. It's been a big change of pace but I'm enjoying learning new skills and hopeful we can continue to grow awareness of both our sport and welfare through The Thoroughbred Network.
